Life Safety

Secure your business and premises with protection that never takes a break

Where people are concerned, fire and life safety systems are of paramount importance. An intelligent system that alerts and directs users to a place of safety can help save time and so lives... BDS work extensively within the core technology producing truly bespoke solutions that protect people and property.

Fire telephone and stadium marshal systems use 'Type A' telephone-style outstations. Normally the outstation comprises a telephone handset in a push-to-open red steel cabinet. It is typically located at entrances and fire-fighting lobbies to allow fire marshals to communicate with building control during an emergency. Its housing has openings to allow its phone to be heard. Larger systems can combine 'Type B' Outstations for Disabled refuge points usually shown as a Green control box. The systems we supply give true duplex speech providing unobstructed two way speech.

Current Building Regulations insist all new non-domestic buildings with more than one storey provide ‘refuge’ areas’ – relatively safe places where people who cannot easily use fire escapes and evacuation lifts can call for assistance and wait until help arrives. Simple, effective two-way communication in these areas is essential, firstly to assist rescue teams in determining where assistance is required and secondly to reassure people help is on the way. The system we provide has been specifically designed to meet the rising demand for fully compliant BS 5839 Part 9 disabled refuge systems using ‘Type B’ intercom style outstations

Emergency lighting operates automatically when a lighting circuit loses the mains power supply. Emergency lighting falls into two categories: Escape lighting. This illuminates exit routes and open areas. Exit routes must be clearly lit and signed to ensure people can evacuate safely. Open area lighting is designed to reduce confusion and panic whilst ensuring visibility of the nearest exit route. Escape lighting also enables employees to shut down sensitive or potentially dangerous processes before evacuating the building. Standby Lighting allows normal activities to continue if the main lighting fails for any reason. An application such as an operating theatre would require standby lighting.
